Level 1 Science

The Level 1 Science course builds students’ abilities to work and think like scientists while also providing students with opportunities to develop their foundational understanding of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Space Science in preparation for NCEA Level 2 Sciences. Topics may include: Water Quality, Ecology, Soil Types, Erosion, Speed and Energy of Water, Nutrition and Digestion, Movement, Forces and Motion, Heat, Electricity, Genetics and Chemical Reactions. Student voice will contribute to deciding which topics are covered and assessed throughout the year. 

Prerequisites: Nil 

What pathways does this subject lead to: Level 2 Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics 

Subject Specific Requirements: Students will require covered shoes to wear during practicals 

Key Skills gained: Carrying out a range of scientific investigations, considering multiple perspectives to develop a personal response to science-based issues and communicating ideas through writing.
