Mathematics is fundamental in being able to solve problems. Mathematics can be challenging, but it is useful in a variety of professions and future pathways. NCEA Level One courses are designed to give you a taste of different Mathematics; Algebra, Number, Statistics, Measurement and Geometry. After NCEA Level One, Mathematics becomes specialised and focuses on more abstract ideas and problems that require logical and critical thinking skills.
In NCEA Level One, the students are assigned to classes based on their mathematical ability, as well as their effort and attitude towards Mathematics in Year 10. There are three NCEA Level One Mathematics classes. Each class offers students the opportunity to gain all of the 10 required Numeracy credits.
MAT101: 19 possible credits
This class does a mixture of Internal and External Achievement Standards:
Trigonometry (AS91032), Number (AS91026), Multivariable Data (AS91035), Algebra (AS91027), Patterns and Graphs (AS91028)
MAT102: 17 possible credits
This class does all Internal Achievement Standards:
Trigonometry (AS91032), Number (AS91026), Multivariable Data (AS91035), Linear Algebra (AS91029), Elements of Chance (AS91038)
MAT103: 13 possible credits
This class does a mixture of Internal Achievement Standards and Unit Standards:
Number (US26623), Statistics (US26626), Measurement (US26627), Linear Algebra (AS91029)
Level 2 Advanced Mathematics and Statistics, Level 2 Mathematics and Statistics
