Course Description

Year 12 English engages and challenges students by examining the techniques used in creating texts, and by analysing how the texts we read and view are relevant to our own lives and the society we live in. This course builds on the skills developed in Level 1 English, and continues to foster and develop an enjoyment of literature and the English language. The course will involve a mixture of film, novels, short stories and poems. 

Key areas of focus in Level 2 English include:

  • Advanced writing skills, which apply to academic, business, and creative writing
  • Reading for personal learning, growth and enjoyment
  • Viewing and analysing film.


The Level 2 English course has flexibility in some areas so that students who may require more time to complete a unit of work are allowed this. Standards assessed will be a selection from the list below.

Workbooks that cost $20 are optional for students sitting the unfamiliar text examination.


Recommended Prior Learning

Completion, submission and successful achievement of at least TWO internal assessments at Level 1.
